Neurobiology

Dr. Matthew Banghart, Assistant Professor of Neurobiology (Division of Biological Sciences) at UCSD, facilitates an interactive seminar about the interconnectedness of neurochemistry and biology through his electrophysiology and electromyography demonstrations using equipment developed at Backyard Brains

Students experiment with an electromyography claw which visually demonstrates how nerves create muscle movement.

Neurobiology graduate student mentors showcase several brains, including cross sections of a human brain! Students are able to hold some of these brains and analyze their cortical folds and structures as discussed in lecture.

Additionally, students learn how the brain interprets natural compounds that have led to pharmaceutical discovery.
